[ID3 Dev] GEOB

I used Tag Clinic 4.2. I successfully added a wav file to a GEOB frame and
it played fine in WMP 10 (albeit no access to the wav file). However, MP3
encapsulated with the video file crashed. It might have been due to an
unsupported MIME Type. Are there any commercial players
(software/hardware) that decode the GEOB frame?

What did you use to insert the GEOB frame into the tag? WMP is admittedly
very finicky about illformatted frames, but perhaps the root problem is the
creation of a non-standard GEOB frame. I tested playing an MP3 which I knew
contained an ID3v2.3 GEOB frame and it played fine.

You can ensure that the GEOB and other less commonly used frames are in the
standard format, but it's really up to the developers of the MP3 player
software to decode those frames. (You can lead a horse to water, but you
can't make him drink.) You can support ID3, but not fully support every
single frame referenced in the standard.

I've noticed several commercial portable MP3 players claiming support for
id3v2.4.0. With that being said, are these devices capable of reading the
data contained in the GEOB frame? What precautions need to be taken during
tagging to ensure this data can be accessed? I tagged an MP3 and added a
small video clip in the GEOB frame and received the dreaded "uncompressed
header" error in Windows Media Player 10. I feel this frame could be the
future of tagging, however the abuse of this frame (executing malicious
code) could stop it before it even starts.
