Yes.  VERRRY ANNOYING.  I have been flaming about it on this list a
lot :-)

In my mind 2.4 is totally unusable because of the wide variation in
implementation from all the different libraries.  Sigh.

It would be nice if there were a 2.4.1 that clarifies the syncsafeness
so that people can get the support right (ha).

Also, I would love to see a 2.3.1 which just adds support for UTF-8 to
the valid charsets.
