No, you don't.  You just have to go through the registration process.

4. Numeric genre handling is incorrect for 2.4.  In 2.3 a numeric genre 
was specified as "(15)"; in 2.4 it is simply "15".  iTunes treats the 
2.4 version as a normal string, so compliant 2.4 numerical tags show up 
in iTunes just as numbers.  Similarly, it writes the 2.3 version into 
2.4 tags.

I reported both the synch-safe int issue (#4435121, reported 6 Feb, 
2006) and the genre issue (#4912611, reported 7 Jan, 2007) in Apple's 
bug tracker.  Detailed descriptions are in both reports.  I never heard 
anything back on either.
